In case you haven't heard...Not important, but, I believe, still interesting. They may be the real deal, according to Pope Benedict. The fresco to the right is an ancient one, probably from around 400 A.D., still too late for him to pose.:)
Not nearly as big a story as Michael Jackson's untimely death, but a story nonetheless.

And the Pope believes these bones are the Apostle Paul's bones because..........? Still trying to picture Paul wearing a purple garment with gold sequins! LOL Don't think he'd go for the Liberace look! ;) (His likness in the Fresco is quite striking! But I always pictured him looking a bit more manly! LOL) Please,..... does the Catholic church need another relic???

The bones are apparently dated to the first century. The rest is left to the line of tradition. Doesn't really matter to me, just interesting.
I think the Apostle Paul might have a bone to pick with all this.
I heard that Paul was short (don't know how they knew that). Maybe now we can find out the truth, provided the bones really are his...
Maybe they can clone him too! Boy, wonder what the Apostle Paul would do if he were living in the modern world these days?
Which denomination would be have his ordination through? How many time slots would he have on TBN? :)
Well, that settles it. The Pope says those old Jewish bones are Pauls, and they're in a Catholic church - so Paul was Catholic...just kidding. I'm afraid that I know quite a few people who operate with that logic.
I had a newspaper article from a while ago about these bones - before they were tested. I had saved it because someone speaking on behalf of the Vatican had made some really great statement to the effect that it didn't really matter what they find out about the bones - it was what we believed about them that was important and inspirational. "When you wish upon a star..."
Oh, and I love the piercing eyes comment - lol. How can two black dots NOT look piercing. I know, I know, I'm not an art expert :).
You are funny, Cindy. I'm LOL!

His supposed head is on the altar at the St. John Lateran church, along with Peter's. I'd love to have the minutes of the committee meeting where they decided to put the skull in one bucket and the other bones, with the purple cloak, in another, and keep the bone bucket underneath St-Pauls-Outside-the-Walls and the skull bucket on the altar at St John Lateran. Even more amazing is the presence of the gigantic, opulent St Peter's Basilica, with the pagan obelisk outside markign the site of Peter's crucifixion, but none of that rates being the final resting place for HIS skull, nope, right there on the altar at St. John Lateran.
Then of course there's the distinct possibility that Peter never even set foot in Rome - much less buried there. He was after all the Apostle to the circumcision - most of whom weren't in Rome.
I love all of the stories (from tradition) of Peter and Paul bopping around Rome like the Bobsy Twins :).
Yes, it's all very believable.
What, VeraLee, are you saying that obelisks aren't Christian...?
